Kenneth Lee Lowery

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kenneth Lee Lowery. Ken departed this world on September 22, 2024, leaving a legacy of care, compassion, and dedication to his family and the community he served so diligently. Ken Lowery was more than just a leader—he was a father, friend and advocate.

Ken was born February 23, 1942, in Emporia, Kansas. He worked on a chicken farm and had a paper route as a kid. Ken started his career in printing early in life at Josten’s American Yearbook which allowed him to put himself through college. After Josten’s, he purchased a printing company in San Antonio, Texas. He later retired and moved to New Braunfels with his wife Caren.

Ken was known for his warm, welcoming nature and his strong sense of community. He spent decades working in private and public service, but his true calling came when he assumed the role of Director at the Senior Center in New Braunfels.

As the beloved Director of the Senior Center, Ken transformed the facility into a haven where seniors could gather, socialize, and find support. His passion for helping others knew no bounds, and he made it his mission to ensure that every senior in the community felt valued and cared for. Under his guidance, the center flourished, offering programs and services that enhanced the lives of countless individuals.

Ken was particularly committed to fundraising, believing every dollar raised could help provide essential services and opportunities for the elderly. His efforts led to several successful fundraising campaigns, securing the resources needed to expand the center's programs and improve its facilities.

Whether it was organizing charity events, reaching out to local businesses, or inspiring others to give, Ken's leadership and vision ensured that the Senior Center remained a vital resource for the community. Ken was also a former member of Noon Lion’s Club in New Braunfels and volunteered with EMS in Kansas.

Ken’s infectious smile, gentle demeanor, and deep well of patience endeared him to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Whether it was through organizing events, coordinating care, or simply lending an ear to those in need, Ken made an indelible mark on the lives of so many.

Ken is survived by his daughters Gina Lowery and Shari Valadez and husband David Valadez, Grandchildren Craig Martinez, Danielle Gomez, and Leslie Valadez, his brothers Calvin Lowery, Lewis Lowery, and Frankie Lowery, and his sister-in-laws; Marla Bowells and Jan Darrah. Ken is also survived by his sweetheart of 14 years Carol Calk and many of Carol’s extended family who, like so many in the community, will forever cherish his memory and the profound impact he had on their lives. Ken is preceded in death by his wife Caren Lowery, and his parents Mary Jane Making Lowery and Nathan Lowery and brothers Dale Lowery, Wayne Lowery, and Richard Lowery.

A celebration of Ken Lowery’s life will be held at the Senior Center in New Braunfels on Saturday, October 26th, 2024, where friends, family, and community members will gather to honor his legacy of kindness and service. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Senior Center in his memory, so that Ken’s spirit of giving may continue to live on.

The family would like to thank those who assisted Ken in the last months of his life. Alma Martinez, Barbara Pesina, Dr. Richard Neel, and wife Marisa, Jackie and David Smith, Carol’s sons Kevin Calk and wife Patricia and Bryan Calk and wife Sharalee, and many neighbors and friends.

Ken Lowery will be deeply missed, but his legacy will endure in the hearts of all who knew him. His commitment to improving seniors' lives, tireless fundraising efforts, and unwavering dedication to the New Braunfels community will not be forgotten. May he rest in peace.
