Kathleen “Kathy” Dyer Grantham, 82, of Spring Branch, Texas, passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2023. Kathy was raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma and was the beloved daughter of J.M. and Pauline (Mogford) Dyer. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter Kenneth Grantham. Kathy graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Washington University in St. Louis with a bachelor’s degree and Northwestern University with a master’s degree, both in Spanish Language and Literature.
Kathy was the tenth CEO of Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas and led the council through its only capital campaign to create the Sally Cheever Girl Scout Leadership Center. She retired in 2009 after 34 years as a professional Girl Scout.
A Girl Scout for more than seven decades, Kathy also volunteered as a troop leader for many years in both Kentucky and Texas. She found joy in building courage and confidence in girls through camp overnights, community service projects, and wider opportunities. She valued the power of sisterhood and celebrated female achievement through her involvement in Girl Scouts, Delta Gamma sorority, and PEO Service Fraternity, among others.
Kathy was a curious and constant student of the world and its peoples and loved stories of all kinds. She was the proud historian of the Mogford family and created two genealogical books documenting the family’s early Texas roots and its extended descendants.
She will be dearly missed by family and friends. She is survived by her loving daughters Nikki Duvall Fry, Kristin (Chuck) Duvall, grandchildren Caroline Fry and William Fry, and many Mogford family cousins.
The family will hold a private memorial service. A public Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, tribute gifts can be directed to Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas. https://www.girlscouts-swtx.org/
