Clara Laubach Bowers Seibel, passed away, September 7, 2023, surrounded by those that loved her and cared for her. She was a strong and courageous woman of God. She, along with her beloved husband, ‘Hank’ conveyed the life of a servant in caring for their family and friends. She and Hank raised their blended family on a respite of rural land on the bank of the Cibolo in Universal City since the early sixties. They loved being in their hidden bit of country in the midst of the surrounding city. Hank and Clara gardened and harvested pecans and shared their provisions with others. No one could bake a better pecan pie than Clara.
In their almost 50 years together they shared a passion for the rugged rural landscapes of Alaska. They built a cabin there and for years would escape the heat of Texas for the cool northernmost state. Hank and Clara could tell great stories of their adventures.
Hank and Clara faithfully served their church in Universal City until health issues would no longer allow. For years Hank and Clara were a refuge for family in times of need. They provided a home and helped raise their great granddaughter when she was very young. Their eyes would shine with delight discussing her activities. Clara, along with her siblings, cared for her mother in her last years. And she helped care for her nephew and her sister as they faced terminal illness. That care was part of Clara’s heart and the strict code of a servant by which she lived. She so faithfully and lovingly cared for Hank until his passing at home at 100 years old.
Clara was a feisty and vibrant soul that will be truly missed.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry “Hank” Seibel, her son Allin Bowers, and her step daughter Sherrae Seibel Mina. She is survived by daughter, Claudia Freeman; brother, Gilbert Laubach; sisters, Lorene Albers and husband Clarence and Corene Coburn; granddaughters, Cristi Bowers, Rosana Mina Meza and Lisa Collins and husband Gary; grandsons, Albert Harris and wife, Heather; great-grandchildren, Kayla, Kaitlyn, Carter, Addy and Emma;great-great-grandson, Tyson Wayne; and numerous nieces and nephews.
