Billy Joe Overby stepped into God's glory on March 10th, 2021; he was 90 years old, still young at heart. Bill was born August 20th, 1930 in Charco, Texas the youngest of Andrew Jackson and Meddie Lousie Overby's 5 children. A true South Texas Cowboy, Bill spent his childhood living in Los Angeles, Kennedy and Cotulla. He attended school in Cotulla, playing in the playground waiting for his older siblings to finish school before going home. In his youth he worked with his brother in laws, Alton Daughtry and Malvin Plocek helping on the ranch with cattle, harvesting watermelons, driving trucks through the streets of Laredo. Bill joined his brother Vertis to work in the oil field as a roughneck, then the US Military called and he joined the Army on March 22, 1951. He turned 21 on the ship traveling to Korea to fight in the Korean War. In an answer to prayer he was assigned to the Howitzer Division, where he fired the cannons while on the 38th parallel (frontline) in Korea. After a cold winter in Korea his division was transferred to Japan, while serving in Japan the United States returned sovereignty to the Japanese Government. Upon being discharged from the Army in 1953, Bill moved to Hillsboro, Texas. He attended Abilene Chistian College for a semester then went to work for Central Freight Lines in Waco as a rate clerk, which started a lifelong career in the Trucking Industry, retiring at 83 from Empire Truck Lines as an International Marketing Manager. While living in Hillsboro, Bill met Jessie Mae Johnson at the church of Christ in Hillsboro and they married on December 17, 1955. They moved to Houston, Texas raising their daughters Linda Renea and Rhonda Lynn Overby. Their family life was centered around their church families, Lindale church of Christ, Bammel Road church of Christ and Conroe church of Christ. Their home was a place of faith and refuge for all who entered, receiving their unconditional love and acceptance. In 1977 Bill became Papa Bill when finally he got his boys, his twin grandsons were born, whom he dearly loved and adored. Bill found immense joy in his family and many friends, he lived life fully with a twinkle in his eye and a sweet smile.. Fishing was Bill's favorite pastime, he was in the Lunker Bass Club of Texas and raised his grandsons on the lake. There were a multitude of fishing trips through the years which were highlights in the lives of all blessed to enjoy a fishing trip with him. If you met him, even briefly, you received a gift of joy, that life is good because God has richly blessed him and that blessing overflowed into the lives of everyone he met. Daddy told us "your cup can never be too full of love"

John 14:1-4 NIV
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”
