Stevens V Pinkerton, 88, of New Bern, passed away peacefully at his home Tuesday, June 14, 2016. Born in Neenah, WI, Steve grew up in the Midwest and was a graduate of Williams College, Williamstown, MA. He served as a pilot/flight instructor in the United States Marine Corp and met his wife of 61 years, Betsy, a native New Bernian, while stationed at Cherry Point. He was an avid/lifelong fan of the Green Bay Packers and loved classic cars, boating and playing tennis.
During their married life, Steve and Betsy lived in Pensacola, FL, Birmingham, AL, Terrace Park, OH and Lake Bluff, IL. In 1983 they retired to New Bern, NC and enjoyed playing tennis at Harbour Town Racquet Club, boating on the rivers of New Bern and family vacations at Atlantic Beach.
He is survived by his wife Betsy, three children Van Pinkerton (Stacy) of Marietta, GA, Kathy Cox (Mike) of Mundelein, IL and Carrie Raben (David) of Greenwood Village, CO, five grandchildren, Michael & Robin Cox, Lizzy, Sam, & Mia Raben as well as two great grandchildren, Logan and Taylor Cox. He was preceded in death by his parents Dewitt and Thelma Pinkerton and brother Thomas Pinkerton.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, June 18 at Cotten Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Craven County Hospice, New Bern, NC
