Ruth Anna (Sherbino) Hewett, 78, of Oriental, North Carolina passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her beloved husband and family on Tuesday, November 10, 2023. Ruth was born in Providence, Rhode Island on July 27, 1945 to the late Harold Arthur Sherbino and Virginia Grace (Kelley) Sherbino.
Ruth was an avid reader, bibliophile and dedicated friend of the library. She graduated from Holy Family High School, New Bedford, MA in 1963 and then from the University of Hawaii School of Nursing in 1974. As a brilliant RN she was loved, admired, and respected by physicians, especially surgeons, fellow nurses and patients. Ruth was an artist and gardener. She liked to travel. She loved her family especially being a grandmother, mother and sister. She had a servants heart working as a nurse for over 40 years in five states as a Navy wife following her husbands career. She was recognized in 2000 as South Carolina's Nurse of the Year and received special recognition as the recipient of the Palmetto Gold Nurse Awards. One of her favorite titles outside of being a mother, grandmother, nurse, sister, friend, was Navy wife, the "toughest job in the Navy".
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 60 years, Leslie "Bill" Hewett, Jr., son Leslie Wilsdon Hewett, III, daughter KelleyJane (Hewett) Paradise, 3 grandchildren, and sisters Barbara Ann (Sherbino) Blanchette, Claire Marie (Sherbino) Desrosiers, and Leslie Jean (Sherbino) Mathes.
In addition to her parents she is predeceased by Ruth's and Bill's beloved sons Joseph Phillips Hewett, Joshua Gray Hewett and grandson Tyler Charles Paradise.
Ruth's entire family, immediate and extended, are forever grateful for the loving, kind and unwavering support and love of Saint Joseph the Worker Catholic Church of Charleston, SC, Saint Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church of Oriental, NC and Hospice of Pamlico County, Bayboro, NC.

A Funeral Mass will be held on for Ruth on 7 December 2023 at 3:00 pm at Saint Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, 1149 White Farm Road, Oriental, NC. She will be inurned at a later date (to be announced) with her sons, Joseph and Joshua, in the columbarium at Saint Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 1695 Raul Wallenburg Blvd., Charleston, SC.
