Ronald Lunceford Moore, 90, of New Bern passed away on Friday October 4, 2024. Ron was born December 6,1933 at St. Catherine hospital in East Chicago, IN to George Lunceford Moore and Viola Lucille Green.
Ron was a long-time member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church.
He is predeceased by his wife Carol who passed away October 10, 2005, and his second wife Martha Meehan who passed away October 19, 2017.
Ron attended Morton School K through 10 and graduated from Hammond High, IN. He enlisted in the US Naval Reserves in 1952 serving 2-years active duty in Newport RI. In 1956 Ron married Carol Ann Murray of Hammond, IN who he met while both working at the Rand McNally Company. He earned a BS degree in accounting at St. Joseph College, East Chicago, IN.
In 1969 he moved the family to Takoma Park, MD, where Ron worked in Washington DC for the Internal Revenue Service. He retired in 1996 from the Office of Chief Council after rising to the position of Technical Assistant to the Associate Chief Council. He was highly regarded in all matters of Employment Tax.
Incredibly well read with a witty sense of humor, Ron enjoyed the outdoors especially when it came to sailing, and later in boating, golf and fishing. An avid traveler, he was happiest when on an adventure, whether it be a camping road trip, a river cruise in Europe, or when nearing age 83 starting one of three trips walking the 500-mile Camino de Santiago (French way) in Spain with his wife Martha, or at 85 walking the 109-mile Dingle Way of Ireland with his son.
He is survived by his children, Kim Glenn, Brian Moore both of Mt. Juliet, TN, Deborah “Debbie” Dalrymple of Poolesville, MD, Diane Kidwell of Weems, VA; 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Cotten Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00pm, Thursday October 10, 2024, followed by a Funeral Mass Friday, October 11, 2024, at 10:00am. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
