Robert "Bob" "Bingo" David Thompson

He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Jeanne Thompson; children, Joseph (Meredith) Thompson, Kenny (Amy) Thompson, Rachel Thompson, Randy (Susann) Sears, Sharon Sears, and Gretchen (Joseph) Keith; he is also survived by his 7 wonderful grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents. Walter and Gladys Thompson, as well as his brother, George Richard Thompson.

Robert served honorably in the United States Marine Corps for 20 years and served 3 tours during the Vietnam War. He retired as a Staff Sergeant (SSgt); he served on land and sea and was tremendously proud of his military service to his country. After his retirement from military service, Robert served as a Detention Officer in the Onslow County Department of Corrections, follow by 16 years of faithful service to the United States Postal Service where he retired for the final time. Those who had the honor of knowing him, loved him and antiquated him with being a “legend’ within the Onslow County Post Office for offering his many opinions and brightening others with his incredible sense of humor.

Everyone, to include family, friends, co-workers, and customers, loved “Bingo” and sincerely missed him upon his retirement. He had an infectious laugh and always looked for the silver lining in any situation. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His passing has left many hearts broken, but we know that he is in a better place free from pain. He had always dreamed of being able to accompany his mother for walks in the gardens of Heaven. We look forward to being with you once again someday.

As per his wishes, there will be no formal viewing or funeral services. While it was highly deserved, it was not what he wished for or wanted. His remains will be placed in the Veterans cemetery in the near future and accommodations will be made for family and friends when the time comes. If anyone wishes to commemorate his memory, please make any donations to the Onslow County Animal Shelter in his name. He loved all of his fur babies and would have loved to continue helping those in need.
