Robert Albert Dorsey (Bob), 76, of New Bern, NC (formerly of Walkersville, MD) passed away on Saturday, July 29. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Dennis Dorsey of 51 years, and son Robert Blaine Dorsey, Newport News, Virginia. Born in Frederick Maryland June 13,1947. He was the son of the late Nathan Dorsey and Willena Holloway Dorsey. Robert (Bob) was a graduate of Frederick High School class of 1965. He retired in 2003 from the U.S. Army Garrison, Dept of the Army, Fort Detrick, MD. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from Feb 1966 to August 1969. During his service he received the National Defense Service Award, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Presidential Units Citation, Combat Action Ribbon and Honorable Discharge. He served in K Company, 26th Regiment, 6th Marine Division. Bob is a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, New Bern. He currently is attending Solid Rock Global Methodist Church, New Bern. He is a member of Francis Scott Key American Legion Post 11, Frederick, MD, Craven County Law Enforcement Organization, Vietnam Veterans Floyd H. Austin Chapter 886, New Bern, NC. Bob was a former member of Glade Valley Athletic Association, NARFE, AARP, as well as serving as Equipment Manager for the Frederick Falcons. Bob loved to travel and was an avid Yankee Fan.
Bob is survived by three brothers, Ronald Dorsey (Donna) of Frederick, MD, Eugene Dorsey (Marylou) Hagerstown, MD, Leslie Dorsey, Frederick, MD, sister-in-law Patricia Will (Donald) of Westminster, MD. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A son, David S, Dorsey, Walkersville, MD preceded him in death. A brother William Dorsey (Fran), mother-in-law Alice Dennis, brother-in-law, David Dennis (Norma) sister-in-law, Pauline Summers sister-in-law (brother-in-law Edward), Rick Will, nephew, and Kaelyn Ashway, great niece, all preceded him in death.
The family would like to thank the many nurses, physicians, and other medical professionals who treated and cared for Bob. Specifically, Dr. David Byrd, Dr. Vernon Chiu, Dr. Richard Gorman, Dr. Michael Casciello, Dr. Robert Fisher and the staff of Craven County Hospice. The respect and treatment of this marine veteran did not go unnoticed.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, October 8, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Cotten Funeral Home with Bryan Huffman officiating..
