He is survived by beloved wife Virginia "Giga" Smith, sons; Richard J. Smith (Jennifer) of Branchburg, NJ, Christopher Smith (Nancy) of Glen Allen, VA, sisters; Gail Blandeburgo of New Bern, NC, Victoria Kerr (Dwight) of Mesa, AZ, grandchildren; Annabelle, Caleb, Abigail, and Katherine.
Skip was the President of X.S. Smith Inc., a greenhouse manufacturing firm in Washington, NC, until his retirement in 2018. He was a competitive sailor, racing on the open ocean for over 30 years. In his free time he was an avid golfer, and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on October 28, 2021 at Christ Episcopal Church. A celebration of life will follow the service, at New Bern Country Club. A private memorial service will be held in Rumson, NJ, date to be announced.
