Miller Gatlin 89, of Cary, passed away Wednesday April 26 at Morningside Retirement Community of Raleigh after a long battle of Alzheimer’s disease. He was born November 3, 1933 to Clarence and Ethel Gatlin of Craven County. He joined the Navy on December 15, 1951 and served in the Korean War aboard the USS Erben as an engineer.
After the war he returned home where he met and married the love of his life, Jo Ann Casey Gatlin. They were married 63 years and had one daughter, Lisa Diane Gatlin.
Miller worked as chief engineer his entire life for companies such as Cherry Point, Burroughs Wellcome and the North Carolina Marriott Hotels of the Eastern Coast. After retiring, he worked for Walmart until the young age of 85 when his health declined.
Miller is preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann; daughter, Lisa; parents, Clarence and Ethel Gatlin; his brothers, Matthew (twin), Otis, Leonard, Steve, Curtis, Allen, and Mack; as well as sisters, Margaret Gatlin Abernathy and Lillie Mae Hearren.
He is survived by one brother, Ray Gatlin (Pat) and his niece/sweetheart, Rhonda Whealton (Tim), as well as many other nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Miller will be held Friday, May 5, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 Southeast Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511. A graveside service will occur Saturday, May 6, 2023 with visitation at 2:00, funeral at 3:00 PM at the Greenleaf Memorial Park Lakeside Chapel, 900 River Road, New Bern, NC 28562.
