Kay was a pioneer in her time. At 5 years old, she sold notions in downtown Akron. She drove a school bus for Springfield Local Schools and St. Mary's Catholic School in Akron, OH. She proudly drove an 18-wheeler, "The Mary Kay," paving the way for women drivers. Kay was also a member of Eastern Star and the Havelock Civitan Club. Kay was a world traveler, visiting at least 21 different countries.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Conley; son, Kiehl; grandchildren, Sharon Kay Striglio (Mike Hedrick) and Laura May McGlaughlin (Darren); great-grandchildren, Sydney Longo (Matt) and Jerry McGlaughlin; and many loving nephews and nieces.
She is preceded in death by the love of her life, Austin Arner; daughter, Sharon; parents, Hurkless and Dessie Covey; and two brothers and two sisters.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 27th at 3pm at McCotter Baptist Church in Havelock, NC.
