Johnny was a local barber for 55 years, but he enjoyed spending his free time in his workshop doing woodworking, being outside tinkering in his yard and grilling for his family and friends. Aside from his woodworking, he was passionate about giving back. He would make a wood item to be auctioned off at a fundraising event, buy someone groceries, and always lend a hand to others. He will be truly missed by his family and friends.
Johnny is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Georgia "Julia" Hobson; three children, Sylvia Hancock (George) of Trent Woods, John "J.R." Hobson, Jr. (Gina) of Florida, and April Rollins (Pete) of New Bern; brother, Leroy Hobson of Raleigh; grandchildren, John Cannon Rhodes (Mike), Jordan Rhodes Pulido (Corey), Kristin Hardison Overman (Dustin), Kenneth Hardison, Jr. (Makayla), Madison Jean Hobson, and Grace Anne Hobson; and great grandchildren, Miles Ryan Overman, Graylen James Pulido, Palmer Ann Overman, and Parker Dianne Hardison.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, January 8, 2023 at Cotten Funeral Home with Pastor Connie Stutts officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to Beech Grove Methodist Church, 1037 Washington Post Road, New Bern, NC 28560 or to the Methodist Home for Children, 1041 Washington Street, Raleigh, NC 27605.
