John Joseph Glenowicz, 68, of Fairfield Harbour in New Bern, NC passed away on November 9, 2024. He was the third child of four, born to Frank and Josephine Glenowicz on August 12, 1956. He grew up on North Street in Hatfield, MA, where he graduated from Smith Academy in 1974. Following graduation, he attended Smith Vocational and became an electrician.
John worked at Hampshire College in the Physical Plant for many years before becoming the Electrical Inspector for the City of Northampton, all while running his own small electrical business. John was a passionate learner and took great pride in sharing his knowledge with others, leading him to return to Smith Vocational as a teacher in the electrical department. He then became an instructor at Porter and Chester Institute. John also had a "weekend gig" teaching and certifying new electricians all across Massachusetts. John was a natural-born leader, and shared many fond memories of his students throughout his later years in life and the impact his students made on him. You couldn't have a conversation with John without learning something new, as he was so full of knowledge.
In 2013, John, along with his wife and youngest daughter, Amy, moved to Fairfield Harbour, North Carolina where he entered into semi-retirement. Most days John could be found riding around the neighborhood in his golf cart, stopping and socializing with his many, many friends. John had an incredible sense of humor and could make anyone laugh with his witty quips and sarcastic jokes. He will be greatly missed and remembered by many for his larger than life personality.
John leaves behind his wife of 40 years, Louise (Tucker) Glenowicz, as well as their three children: John Joseph Glenowicz Jr., of Northampton, MA, Lisa Louise Glenowicz, of Northampton, MA, and Amy Nicole Glenowicz, of New Bern, NC. John leaves behind his sisters, Irene Mazur, of Nokomis, FL, and Joyce (David) Hahn, of Hadley, MA, and his godson Frank Glenowicz, of Whately, MA. John also leaves three sister-in-laws: Ruth (John) Burnett, of Easthampton, MA, Janet (Paul) Choinere, of Greenfield, MA, and Elaine (Richard) Dudkiewicz, of Easthampton, MA. John also leaves behind cousins, nieces, and nephews, and many friends.
John was predeceased by his parents as well as his older brother, Frank Glenowicz, and sister-in-law, Jeanne Glenowicz.
