He is survived by his mother Lucy Noyes (Pete), his sisters, Christy Zamecnik (David), Janet McElroy, Teresa Ransdell and one brother Ray Sawyer (Julie). James was born in Louisville, KY to James and Lucy Sawyer on January 8, 1957. He grew up in Hodgenville, KY where he attended schools and graduated from High School. He completed his Bachelor of Arts in Music at Morehead State University.
All of James’ friends knew of his love of boots of which he has quite a collection. When not working, his favorite activities were playing the piano and cooking. While in high school, though he was actively engaged in excelling in his studies, he found time to help his younger siblings and his mother who worked outside the home. Cooking had become one of his interests and on his own he soon became the evening meal chef. Cooking continued to be a great love of his life much to the delight of family and friends.
His major interest in college was the piano but he soon developed an interest in the cello which he also became very proficient in playing. James loved and was much loved by all his nieces and nephews. This love was carried over to the children and grandchildren of friends he met when he moved to New Bern. He was a dear son, brother, neighbor, and friend that will be missed.
He attended the Christ Church in New Bern and sang in the choir.
A memorial service will be held at 11am, Saturday, November 11th at Christ Church, 320 Pollock St, New Bern, NC.
