Ilse Mohr Wangerin

Ilse Wangerin of New Bern, NC passed away peacefully Monday, July 8th. Born in Kiel, Germany on May 15th 1934 to Walter and Gretchen Mohr. In 1954, she immigrated to New York City, where she worked in the banking industry. It was here she met her husband Donald Wangerin of 45 years. After several moves across the country, they settled in Cary, NC where they continued to raise their family.

After retirement, they moved to New Bern, NC to be closer to family. Her family included children; David Wangerin (Rebecca), Steven Wangerin (Cathy), Doris Smith (Gary). Her family also included six grandchildren: Nathan and Christopher Lile, Stephanie Wangerin Dameworth (Taylor), Amy Wangerin, Hannah and Dylan Smith. She is also survived by a cousin, Renate Anker of Kiel, Germany.

Ilse and her husband Donald, who preceded her in death in 2004, enjoyed traveling, watching their children and grandchildren play sports. Ilse enjoyed traveling the world, reading, playing tennis, playing bridge, needlepoint and spending time with family and friends. Most recently, she enjoyed spending time with her friend Harry Kling.

The matriarch of our family was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.

The Memorial service will be held on July 20th, at 1 pm at Cotten Funeral Home in New Bern, North Carolina.
