He was the son of John Q. Branch and Sallie Denby Branch. George married the love of his life on March 2, 1973.
George graduated from Chocowinity High School and enlisted in the United States Army in 1962. He served the 59th Chemical Company at Fort McClellan, Alabama, and in Germany for 2 years. He was awarded several medals, including the Good Conduct and Sharpshooter Medals.
Later pursuing a career in optometry and working alongside his sister, Mary, in Jacksonville, NC, George earned his optician's license. He loved his family, and loved to be outdoors working, or cooking steaks on the grill.
George is preceded in death by his parents John Q Branch and Sallie Denby Branch; Brother- Carl Douglas Branch and John W Branch; Sisters- Mary Leigh Hawthorne, Laura Elizabeth Hodges, Betty Jean Branch Bass, and Beatrice Gray Branch.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Pat; daughter, Tracy Phillips and her husband Chris; grandson Justin Peed, and his husband, Stephen; sister, Lois Branch Morgan of Farmville, including several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Jody Esarove, Nora Misa, and Clayton Gaskins from Craven County Hospice who took such loving care of him; Close friends Earl Coward, Annette Canady, and Carol Ward for supporting the family during the last few months.

A Celebration of George's Life will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at 2:00 pm at the Lakeside Chapel at Greenleaf Memorial Park. Ronnie Civils will be officiating the service. Military Honors will be conducted at the end of the service. Following military honors, George will be laid to rest at Greenleaf.
