Born in 1940 in Waltham Massachusetts, Ed called Richmond, New Hampshire home for much of his life and served as Head Selectman for the town for many years. He later lived in Watertown, Connecticut before relocating to New Bern, North Carolina. Ed retired from National Grange Insurance Company and was an adult leader in Boy Scouts of America and a proud “horse dad.” While in New Bern, he served the New Bern Firemen’s Museum as a tour guide and was a member of the Fairfield Harbour Fishing Club.
Ed was shortly preceded in death by his son Edward Francis Campbell of Biddeford, Maine. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of sixty years Barbara Shaughnessy Campbell; sisters Bette Ruggles (Carl) and June Terrill (Mel); son John Campbell (Angel) and daughter Colleen Fox (Andrew); grandchildren John and David (Susie) Campbell, Nicole Melo (Nate), Katherine Campbell, M.D., Devin Campbell, Amelia Fox, and Campbell Fox; and great-grandchildren Avelyn, Aria, and Aubrey Melo.
An avid fisherman, boater, and reader, Ed was most at home with his family and in the company of lifelong friends. He will be laid to rest together with his son at a family ceremony to be held at a later date in Litchfield, Connecticut.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ed’s memory to the Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University or the New Bern Firemen's Museum.
Cotten Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to serve the family and friends of Edward C. Campbell.
