Douglas Allan Young

Douglas Allan Young (Doug-Doug to his grandchildren), 66, of New Bern, North Carolina passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2023. Doug was born in New Bern, North Carolina on January 21, 1957 to Harold and Mary Young.

Doug was a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend. His first love which continued throughout his life was that of surfing the Outer Banks. He spent countless days golfing with buddies at Quaker Neck and River Bend. Although his score was nothing to brag about and never substantially improved, his proudest golf accomplishment was passing along his love of the game to his son, Bryce. On his 31st birthday he became a father for the first time and shared that day with his daughter, Caitlin, for 35 years. Self-taught, he could disassemble and reassemble anything with a motor, battery or motherboard, and his ingenious mind meant never needing to call a professional for repairs. If he couldn’t fix it, he’d learn how. As a courier for over a decade, he could recall the exact address of any residence or business in New Bern and had fond memories of his time delivering packages to many in this community.

He is survived by his daughter Caitlin Young Badger and her husband Alex, son Bryce Young and his wife Suzanna, grandchildren Anders, Audrey and a grandson he was beyond excited to meet this summer, siblings Kenneth Young, Donna Young, Larry Young and his wife Beth, Susan Young, and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents, Harold and Mary Young.

A celebration of life for all who wish to attend will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the Badger Residence, 410 Surrey Lane, Trent Woods, NC 28562. Condolences and flowers will also be received at this address. Online condolences can be made to www.cottenfuneralhome.com.
