It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dorothy Acker, a beloved wife, sister, aunt, and friend, who passed away peacefully on November 17, 2024, at the age of 83. Dorothy was born on September 11, 1941, and lived a life full of love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends.
Dorothy was a woman of great strength and compassion, deeply loved by all who knew her. She was a dedicated and caring individual who always put others first. Throughout her life, she shared her warmth and generosity with everyone she encountered, offering a kind word or a helping hand whenever it was needed.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved son, as well as her parents, a brother, and a sister. Though these losses left deep scars in her heart, she continued to live with grace, honoring their memory and sharing her love with those around her.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Robert; her niece, Pearlie (Bill), whom she helped raise like a daughter; and a great-niece, Lena, who lovingly called her "Granny." Dorothy’s family was everything to her, and she cherished each moment spent with them. She is also survived by many other relatives and friends who will remember her with deep affection and gratitude.
Dorothy will be missed more than words can express, but her legacy of love, compassion, and resilience will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her. Her kindness, her gentle spirit, and the lessons she taught through her actions will never be forgotten.
A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 24, at Cotten Funeral Home in New Bern. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., one hour before the service.
Rest in peace, Dorothy. You will always be loved, and your memory will continue to live on in our hearts.
