He was preceded in death by his parents, George S. Pate and Rosalee Sumrell Pate of the Epworth community in Vanceboro, NC. He is survived by his lovely, devoted wife of almost 72 years, Lizzian Barrow Pate; one daughter Marthanette Pate Moore and husband Dexter of Grifton, NC; one son Ronnie L. Pate and wife Kathy of New Bern, NC; one brother Ronald S. Pate and wife Lois Ann Pate of Vanceboro, NC.
Donald also leaves behind his grandchildren to cherish wonderful memories of fun times camping at Kerr Lake and many family get-togethers, to include Glen Moore of Greenville, NC; Derrick & (Faith) Moore of New Bern, NC; Neil Moore of California; Stacie P. & (Daniel) Barnett of Cove City, NC; and Steven & (Jennifer) Pate of New Bern, NC.
Also surviving are Donald’s much loved great-grandchildren to include Taylor Barnett; Justin, Tyler, Nathan, and Aaron Moore; Nina Moore, Cory & (Rebecca) Moore; Isabella, Gracie and Ethan Moore; and his step-great-grandchildren Darria, Finley, and Anderson Womble.
Donald was very faithful member of Sherwood Forest Free Will Baptist Church. He loved to read his Bible, never missed giving thanks at mealtimes, and loved Jesus with all his heart. He was such a wonderful husband, father, and Granddaddy. He will be truly missed by his family and his many wonderful friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, August 15, 2016 at Cotten Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Sherwood Forest Free Will Baptist Church, New Bern, NC.
