Diane Sutton Queen

Diane Sutton Queen, 76, of New Bern, North Carolina passes away peacefully at her home surrounded by her son and family on Saturday, November 4, 2023. Diane was born on April 28, 1947 but officially on April 29, 1947 in Pitt County North Carolina to the late James William Sutton and Mildred Lee Carraway Sutton.

She was an incredible teacher for 30+ years and even taught alongside former students. She was a loving mother who tended treat all kids like they were her own. Diane was a prolific bargain hunter and collector who often spent weekends seeking sales with her late sister. She spent her downtime reading her favorite novels or making jewelry. She will be remembered fondly by her family and her students.

She is survived by her son John Queen and his wife, Mallory, grandchildren Nora Queen and Rebecca Jo Queen, sisters Debbie Sutton, Connie Bright and Sue Hanson, brothers, Gene Sutton, Jerry Sutton, and George Sutton, and the countless friends, coworkers, and students he impacted throughout her life. She will be dearly missed by all those who had the privilege to know her.

She is predeceased by her husband Clyde Bevington Queen, her brother Bill Sutton, sister Cherry Turnage, her step-daughter Laura Queen, and her granddaughter Kristi Southard.

The Queen Family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice for the love and care they provided to Diane and our family in our time of need. Thanks to the nurses and aids who took time to make Diane comfortable in her final days. And thanks to Centerwell home care for trying to help and helping us get the care she needed.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Coastal Carolina State Veterans' Cemetery on Monday, November 13, 2023 at 12pm. She will be laid to rest with her husband immediately following the service.
