Diane was born on October 2, 1950, in Fort Madison, Iowa to Leo G. and Evelyn B. (Howell) Zumdome, the second of their four children.
She was graduated from Aquinas High School in 1968 in Fort Madison and attended AIC in Davenport, Iowa.
Diane met the love of her life, Michael R. Foster at a New Year’s Eve party in 1969 in Fort Madison. They married February 27, 1971, in Fort Madison and their adventure lasted nearly 53 years. Their son, Joshua R. Foster, was born in 1971.
Michael’s early career took the family from Davenport to Des Moines to Omaha NE, and Oelwein, Michael’s father’s hometown. The family settled in Fort Madison from 1977 to 1997 when they decided to relocate to New Bern, NC.
Her career included working for Fruehauf Corporation, later Ruan, in Fort Madison. Diane worked for RSM McGladrey in New Bern until her retirement in 2015.
Family was most important to Diane. In addition to her husband and son, she showered unconditional love on her siblings and her nieces and nephews, and her great-nieces and great-nephews. Diane was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, bucking her family’s tradition of the St. Louis Cardinals. She loved “Cubbie blue”, including her favorite Michael Kors purse and her car. She cheered on the Iowa State Cyclones and the Iowa Hawkeyes from the “Schroeder” room, lovingly named after her brother-in-law, where she and Michael could watch multiple games on tv.
She loved tending to her home and her yard. Diane was an active sailor in Fort Madison and involved with the Blackbeard Sailing Club in New Bern. Diane loved music and was especially proud of her son’s involvement in the Boston Gay Men’s Chorus.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, her son, Joshua R. Foster (Robert Harris), Woburn, MA; her brothers, Larry (Rhonda) Zumdome and Ronald “Zoomer” (Barbara) Zumdome of Fort Madison, IA; her sister, Becky (Steve) Rung of Fort Madison, IA; brother-in-law Steven Foster (Joan Witter); Boca Raton, FL; and sister-in-law Susan (James) Schroeder, Dallas, OR; and Heather (Randy) Stuecker, West Point, IA; Erik (Juillet) Zumdome, Eldon, MO; Adam (Ashley) Rung, Monroe City, MO; and Katie (Colby) Kreiss, Bonaparte, IA; and several great-nieces and nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, several aunts and uncles, and her brother-in-law, James C. Foster.
