Charlie served as a Corporal in the Army and was stationed in Japan and Korea during the Korean War. After the war, he obtained a business degree from Central Missouri State University. Charlie went on to work with Hallmark Cards for thirty six years. His business career took him to Ireland, Missouri, Kansas, North Carolina, and Texas. Nineteen years ago, Charlie’s retirement years brought him to New Bern where he’s been a deacon and member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. Charlie enjoyed living in Greenbrier and playing golf at The Emerald Golf Club.
Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert L. and Gladys W. Bratton. He is survived by his wife Letitia Blount Bratton and by two children, Steven Michael Bratton of New York and Teresa B. Peterson of Kansas. He is also survived by two step-children, Cameron Merrill Evans and wife Dena of Greenville, NC and Margaret Blount Evans “Meg” Temkin and husband Harry of Montclair, NJ. Charlie leaves seven grandchildren who know him as Papa: Nathan Charles and Katie Peterson, Sydney and Eli Evans and Addie, Gardner and Mimi Temkin. He also leaves to miss his presence a brother, Harold and his wife Janis of Indiana; a sister, Barbara B. Workman of Florida and two brothers-in law, AI G. Blount of Shiloh, NC and James G. Blount, Sr. and wife Sally of Edenton, NC. Numerous cousins, nieces and nephews will also miss Uncle Charlie.
A funeral service will be held at 2 pm Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Tabernacle Baptist Church, Broad Street, New Bern, NC .The family will receive friends following the service. Burial will be held at a later date in the Powell’s Point Baptist Church Cemetery in Currituck County.
