Betty Hill Mattocks

Betty Hill Mattocks, 83, of Trent Woods passed into her heavenly home on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, with her loved ones by her side. She was born in Lenoir County to the late Jonas William (J.W.) and Marjorie Humphrey Hill.

She was married to J.B. Mattocks, who preceded her in death.

Betty graduated from Jasper High School as Valedictorian of her class. She went to work with First Citizens Bank and Trust Company and retired from the bank with almost 48 years of service.

She was a long-time active member of Spring Garden Baptist Church, as long as her health permitted. She loved God, her family, and her church family.

In addition to her husband and parents, Betty was preceded in death by her stepdaughter, Janet Kirby; great-niece, Alexandra Carolina Edwards; and brother-in-law, Bobby Edwards.

Betty is survived by her sisters, Margaret Murphy (J.K.), Frances Edwards, and Patricia Hill; brothers, Jimmie Hill (Charlene), Freddie Hill (Mary Ann), and Larry Hill (Linda); stepdaughter, Cecile Shenkan; and step-grandchildren, Alyssa Melvin, Kathryn Shenkan, and Drew Shenkan (Vanessa). She is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews with whom she shared special relationships.

The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Cotten Funeral Home. A Celebration of Betty's Life will begin at 2:00 pm. Following the service, Betty will be laid to rest at Greenleaf Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Betty's honor to Spring Garden Baptist Church, located at 650 Spring Garden Road, New Bern, NC 28562.
