Elizabeth Gwendolyn “Betty Gwyn” Ipock, 89, of New Bern, and more recently, Vanceboro, NC, passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2022. Betty Gwyn was born on January 17, 1933 to Raymond and Margaret Watson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles McNeil “Mac” Ipock, daughter, Susan Walker and her husband, Stephen Walker and brother, Raymond Alexander Watson, Jr. She is survived by her daughters: Gwendolyn Morris and husband, Perry of Vanceboro, Julie Ormond and husband, Randy of New Bern, Martha Lilly and husband, Don of Vanceboro, and Mary Neil Hall and husband, Shelton of Newport; seven grandchildren, Clement Morris and wife, Alicia, Katherine Morris Porter and husband, Jason, Natalie Morris Shelton and husband, Benjamin, Meghan Ormond Tilghman and husband, Ben, Sarah Lilly Ambrose and husband, Brett, Austin Lilly, and Jarrett Hall; 4 great-grandchildren, Lathon, Colton, and Lukas Morris and Morgan Shelton; sister-in-law Priscilla Bynum and husband, Don, of Charlotte, and sister-in-law Leah Ipock of New Bern.
Betty Gwyn enjoyed being a farmer’s wife, and she preserved fruits and vegetables every summer filling her family’s pantry and more recently her grandchildren’s pantries. She was employed by the Craven County Library and enjoyed sharing her love of reading with patrons of the Library and the bookmobile. Betty Gwyn was a lifelong member of Beech Grove United Methodist Church and an affiliate member of Centenary United Methodist Church and enjoyed singing in the choirs.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 29, 2022 from 12:00p.m. through 1:30p.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church, 309 New Street, New Bern. A celebration of life will follow at Centenary at 2:00p.m. with Revs. Connie Stutts and Vann Spivey officiating. Betty Gwyn will be laid to rest at Beech Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, in New Bern in a private service for the family.
