In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, James Edward Daly, and her brother Raymond Vosburgh.
She is survived by her son, Scott Daly (Susan); daughter, Maureen Daly Abraham (Lou); grandchildren, Layne Abraham Fuller (Brinson), Matt Abraham, and Trent Abraham (Kirstin).
Barbara grew up in New Jersey and as a youth was part of large group of teen girls of popular notoriety. Her yearbooks were full of comments, with no whitespace left and writing even on the bindings. In the suburbs of Chicago, while in their early thirties, Barbara and Jim hosted large parties of cards and dancing, which kept the kids awake until midnight (forgiven). There, she was active in the school‘s PTA and loved taking her children ice skating during the winter. Then moving to Charlotte, they also made many friends, spanning the nearby neighborhoods, despite their northern accents. Now in their forties, their entertainment was more mature, such as bowling, gardening, and the swim club. Over the years, Barbara worked as a secretary for several different companies in New Jersey, Chicago, and Charlotte before retiring from Rexham Corporation in 1989. In 2000, Barbara and Jim moved to New Bern to be closer to their daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. Barbara was an avid gardener and was a member of the New Bern Garden Club, as well as the Newcomer’s Club and a Bridge club. Her active life also included volunteering at Tryon Palace and the New Bern Civic Theatre. When she wasn’t involved in community activities, she loved needlework, crochet and other crafts. Her competitive spirit led to many winnings in Scrabble, Canasta, Bridge, and most recently Rummikub.
She will be fondly remembered for her welcoming spirit to all people, her easy laugh, and love of games. She always tried to reduce the chaos in the world, in the ways she could, especially helping her children and grandchildren. She loved to travel, but most important was the travel to see her extended family scattered across the states.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 23 at Cotten Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service at the home of Maureen and Lou Abraham 3151 Old Airport Rd. New Bern.
