Born in Faial-da-Terra, Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal, she was a daughter of the late Manuel DeMedeiros and Maria Branco. She came to the United States in November of 1969 and settled in New Bedford.
Mrs. DaSilva was a faithful member of the Holy Rosary Woman’s Guild. She enjoyed knitting and cooking especially sweet rice and cacoila. Vavó was a loving caretaker to numerous children throughout her life time and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Natalia DaSilva of Fall River, Maria de Lurdes Costa of New Bedford and Zoraida Amaral and her husband Antonio of New Bedford; five grandchildren, David Costa and his wife Priscilla, Priscilla Hendrick and her husband Walter, Jonathan Amaral, Christopher Costa and Nathan Amaral; two great grandchildren, Andrew David Costa and Evelyn Rose Costa; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sons-in-law, John DaSilva and Antonio M. Costa and her siblings, Antonio Amaral, Manuel Medeiros, Jose Festa, Maria Sao Pedro and Honorina Medeiros.
Her Funeral will be held on Friday, February 17, 2023 at 9 a.m. from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle St., New Bedford. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours Thursday 5-8 p.m. Flowers are welcome.
