Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Simon and Jeanette (Peloquin) Comeau he was a lifelong area resident and a communicant of the former St. Mary’s Church, New Bedford.
Mr. Comeau served in the United States Army during World War II. In September 2023 he was selected to participate in Honor Flight New England. This program honors America’s most senior veterans. They transport veterans like Robert to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials and reflect on their service.
He was a third generation bricklayer. He was a member of the Bricklayers Allied Craftsmen Union and was recognized for his 75 years of service in 2020. He worked on various schools, hospitals, college campuses and buildings during his career.
Robert enjoyed traveling internationally with his wife Bella and wintering in North Fort Myers, Florida. He treasured his time with his family and no matter the weather or distance he faithfully attended all his grandchildren’s sporting events. He looked forward to his weekly breakfasts with his friends at Panera and Symposium. He enjoyed golfing, photography, and was a dedicated New England sports fan.
He is survived by his daughter, Robbin Roy and her husband Leo of Mattapoisett; two grandchildren, Heidi Phenix and her husband Chris of Middleboro and Derek Roy and his wife Aly of Needham; great grandchildren, Nathan and Owen Phenix and Libby and Theo Roy; a sister, Diane Letourneau of Dartmouth; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Florence Jones.
His family would also like to recognize the incredible kindness, compassion, and commitment of the staff at Sippican Health Care Center and the Hospice Southcoast Health Visiting Nurse Association.

His visitation will be Thursday, October 17, 2024 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, October 18, 2024 at 10 a.m. in St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish, 343 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford.
