Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Manuel Monteiro and Elsie Borges. From a young age Paul loved working. Together with his brother he owned and operated P&D Fruit and Produce in New Bedford (and Dennisport) for 50 years. Through his work, he made countless friends and loyal patrons. After “retirement” he continued doing what he loved during the summer, providing produce to locations on the cape. He believed “If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life” and he truly loved what he did.
Paul was always living life to the fullest. When he wasn’t working he loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed cookouts by the pool, Saturday night dinners with friends, trying his luck in Vegas, and spending sunny winters at his home in Englewood where he was well-loved by all of his neighbors. To know Paul was to love him. His vivacious spirit and infectious laugh could lift the mood in any room and he will be missed by those that knew him.
He is survived by his daughters, Paula Silva and her husband Walter, Christine Monteiro and her fiancé John DeMello, Andrea Finnerty and her husband Jay, all of Dartmouth. His grandchildren, Joshua Silva and his wife Kara, Jessica Silva, Kayleigh Silva, Max Finnerty, and Harper Finnerty. His great grandchildren Benjamin and Nicholas Silva. His brother David Monteiro. Several nieces and nephews and many, many, friends who adored him. Paul is predeceased by his sister Monica Jane Reifman.
His Funeral will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 8:30am from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:30am in St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish, 343 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford.
