Patricia A. (Rego) Medeiros, 82, of New Bedford and formerly of Rochester, Brockton, and Middleboro passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2024 in St. Luke’s Hospital after a battle with Alzheimer’s. She was the wife of the late David T. Medeiros.
Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Cabral) Rego she was a lifelong area resident and a communicant of St. John Neumann Church in Freetown.
Mrs. Medeiros graduated from BMC High School before obtaining her Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Lesley College. She worked as a social worker for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and was nominated for Social Worker of the Year in 1989.
Pat was active at St. John Neumann where she was a member of the Women’s Guild and the Prayer Shawl Knitting Club. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting, traveling, square dancing, and reading. She was also on the Board of Directors for the Fort Taber Historical Association.
She is survived by her children David T. Medeiros, Jr. of Freetown, Darren F. Medeiros and his wife Doreen of Swansea, and Sherri L. Schoorens and her husband Steven of New Bedford; daughter-in-law, Robin Medeiros of Swansea; 16 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn Alves of ID; and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Dennis J. Medeiros and Daniel P. Medeiros; mother-in-law of the late Linda Medeiros; and sister of the late Frank Rego and Ruth Jackson.
Her funeral will be Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at 9 a.m. from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02745 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. John Neumann Church, 157 Middleboro Rd., Freetown.
