Norman E. Nichols, 81, of Acushnet, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving husband of Joan P. (Howland) Nichols with whom he shared 60 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late Leslie R. Nichols and Loretta G. (Masse) Nichols, he had resided in Acushnet for the past 50 years.
Mr. Nichols was a graduate of Bryant College with a Bachelor’s degree in Business and Accounting.
He had worked as a self-employed contractor until his retirement.
Norman loved spending time with his family whom he adored. He was known to cook a meal every Sunday for his family. He enjoyed trips to the casinos and golfing in his spare time. Norman opened his home to everyone and would help anyone in need.
He is survived by his children, Cheryl Jesse and husband Barry, Gary Nichols and wife Catherine, Dawn Ferreira and husband Fernando and Leanne Pereira and husband Victor; his grandchildren, Meghan Bessette-Nichols, Garrison Nichols, Nicholas Ferreira, Derek Pereira, Thomas Nichols, Victoria Pereira and Sean Ferreira; his brothers, Leslie “Dick” Nichols, Henry Nichols, Kenneth Nichols and Paul Nichols; and several nieces and nephews.
His Funeral will be held on Friday, November 22, 2019 at 9 a.m. from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 440 Main St., Fairhaven. Burial in Acushnet Cemetery.
