Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Richard A. and Elizabeth (Costa) Willett, he had resided in Acushnet for many years. He was a graduate of New Bedford High School.
Michael was co-owner and Captain of the Hear No Evil and Let It Ride scalloping boats hailing from New Bedford.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed driving his classic Chevy Malibu car. Most of all, he loved spending time with his son, James, especially watching him play hockey.
A special thank you to Russell Isabel, his first mate and all his crewmates for all their valiant efforts and diligence in bringing Michael home to his family and loved ones. Also our deepest appreciation to Eric Orman, Timmy Mello and everyone at Tempest Fisheries for their support and care.
Survivors include his son, James Michael Willett and step-daughter, Brianna Haskins both of Arlington, MA; a sister, Jennifer L. Aguiar and husband Gilbert of Acushnet; two brothers, Robert W. Willett and wife Donna of Milford, NH and Paul R. Willett of Vero Beach, FL; his nieces and nephews, Brett and Nicole Aguiar, Arianna and Taylor Willett; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was the brother of the late Steven B. Willett.
His Funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 8am from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford with a Funeral Mass at 9am in Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, 121 Mt.
