Luisa T. (Torres) Reis, 64, of Westport, passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at home following a long courageous battle with cancer. She was the loving wife of John S. Reis with whom she shared 42 years of marriage.
Born in Achadinha, Sao Miguel, Azores, daughter of the late Jose Felix and Maria da Gloria (Raposo) Torres, she lived in Brazil until the age of 18 before immigrating to New Bedford. She has lived in Westport since 1971.
Mrs. Reis had worked as a supervisor for the Talbot’s distribution center in Lakeville.
An active communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church, she was a member of the Ladies Guild and taught catechism. She was an usher at Trinity Repertoire and Zeiterion Theaters and enjoyed watching soccer. A world traveler, Luisa loved the yearly trips that she took with her group of special friends.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Erik T. Reis and wife Alyssa and Todd T. Reis all of Westport; one granddaughter, Brynn L. Reis; one sister, Maria T. Nogueira and husband Helder of New Bedford; two brothers, Jose dos Reis Torres and wife Iveta of Acushnet and Nelson P. Torres of New Bedford; a sister-in-law, Shirley Torres of Acushnet; and several nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at 9AM from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Funeral Mass at 10AM in Our Lady of Grace Church, 569 Sanford Rd., Westport. Visiting hours Wednesday 6-9PM. Burial private. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
