Born in New Bedford, son of the late Manuel and Angelina (Rapoza) Silva, he was a lifelong resident of the city.
Mr. Silva proudly served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean and Vietnam Wars attaining the rank of Sergeant. He was the recipient of the Vietnamese Campaign Medal with device, National Defense Service Medal with one star, Vietnamese Service Medal with three stars, Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal and the Good Conduct Medal with two stars.
He had worked as a laborer in the construction industry for many years until his retirement. He was a member of the Teamsters Union.
Louis was a very hard working man who also enjoyed tending to his garden. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Kathy Pypec of South Dartmouth, Kenneth Silva of Barnstable, Suzanne Baptista of New Bedford, Betsy Hayes of New Bedford, Sandra DaPonte of New Bedford, Barbara Arsenault of South Dartmouth, Lisa Raposo of New Bedford and Jeffrey Silva of New Bedford; fifteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
