Loretta A. (Janiak) Stawasz, 85, of Acushnet passed away Sunday, June 5, 2016 at SE Massachusetts Health and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. She was the beloved wife of the late William T. Stawasz.
Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late Andrew and Aniela (Nowak) Janiak, she grew up in New Bedford and went on to graduate from the New Bedford Vocational High School.
Loretta lived most of her life in Acushnet and worked as a teacher’s aide for the Acushnet Elementary School. She was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Parish.
Her family and grandchildren were the most important part of her life.
Loretta’s family would like to thank the staff at the SE Massachusetts Health and Rehabilitation Center for the outstanding care provided to her. It has been very comforting knowing she was being cared for by the best.
She is survived by her children, Sue Diogo and her husband Tony of Westport and Stan P. Stawasz; two grandchildren, Wendy Morris and her husband Mike and Jeff Diogo; three great grandchildren, William, Lillian, and Matthew Morris; and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Z. Walter, Mitchell, Theodore, and John Zaniak, Wanda Bourgeois, and Elizabeth Phaneuf.
Her memorial service will be Monday, June 20, 2016 at 10 am in St. Francis Xavier Parish, 125 Main St., Acushnet. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
