Born in Acushnet, he was the son of the late Thomas H. and Alice (Gachet) Tuttle. Leo attended school in Acushnet.
Leo was a Veteran of the Merchant Marines during WWII and was very proud to tell everyone the countries he visited during that time. He went on to become a Captain of various fishing boats for the Marder Fishing Corp. for over four decades of working on the water. Lastly, the F/V Columbia before retiring.
After retiring Leo enjoyed spending time with his wife and family on Long Pond and fishing with his grandchildren. Leo also enjoyed carpentry, landscaping, and watching Westerns while sitting in his recliner.
Leo had three daughters, Roberta L. Tuttle of Lakeville, Gayle A. Stalter and her husband Keith of Acushnet, the late Kim T. Phaneuf of New Bedford; four grandsons, Scott Stalter, the late Kevin Phaneuf, Brad Stalter, and Ryan Phaneuf; seven great-grandchildren, Alex Stalter, Aubrey Stalter, Brianna Phaneuf, Henry Stalter, Alan Toste, Abbey Toste and Andrew Toste; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Thomas Earnest Tuttle, Edmund Tuttle, and Theresa Brennan.
His funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 10:30AM in the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30AM in St. Francis Xavier Parish, 125 Main Street, Acushnet.
