Josephine (Coronelli) Montalto, age 88 of Bridgewater and New Bedford passed away Sunday, May 20, 2018 in Quincy,surrounded by her loving family. She was married to the late Filippo Montalto for 55 years.
Born in Milan, Italy, a daughter of the late Anibale and Elena (Corbellini) Coronelli, she immigrated to the United States with her husband in 1961, moving to New Bedford in 1967. Josephine was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church, New Bedford and St. Thomas Aquinas Church of Bridgewater. She was employed as a bookkeeper/accountant for 30 years, first in Italy and later at Eyedeal Vision in New Bedford. She was extremely proud to be an American citizen. Josephine loved her family dearly and cherished her time with her grandchildren and was so proud of all of them. Her great sense of humor and ready laugh made her a joy to be with. She was an original “foodie” and an outstanding cook who loved cooking for large family gatherings. The family feasts were fantastic!
She was deeply religious and loved to be part of the church community, was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Choir, and the New Bedford Sons of Italy. She was an avid reader and enjoyed the outdoors and trips to the beach.
Josephine is survived by her children, Bartolino Paul Montalto and his wife Heather, Mary Grace Montalto and her husband Harry Donaghue, Carol Bresciani and her husband Lawrence and Michael Montalto, all of MA; a step-daughter, Cristiana Montalto-Turati and her husband Gianni of Italy; a sister Eugenia Coronelli, a brother Giovanni Coronelli and his wife Gabriella and several cousins, all of Italy; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Carlo Coronelli and Marisa Casiraghi.
Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 10:00AM in the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02745 followed by a funeral mass at 11:00AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 283 Mill Street, New Bedford, MA 02740. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00PM. Burial will take place at St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery, 103 Center Street, Bridgewater, MA 02324.
