Joanne (Malonson) Hadfield, 72, formerly of E. Freetown, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2024 surrounded by her loved ones following a long battle with multiple sclerosis. She was the beloved wife of the late James C. Hadfield.
Daughter of the late Francis J. and Grace M. Malonson, she was raised in New Bedford and resided in Acushnet for several years. While her father served in the air force, they lived in many places including France and Germany. She also enjoyed summers at the cottage on Long Pond with family.
She was a graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School and worked in the Human Resources department at Mediplex for several years.
Joanne and her husband moved from New Bedford in the late 1980s to raise their son, James R. in E. Freetown where they were very active in Freetown youth sports.
Joanne was known for her love of coffee, reading and was a huge Boston sports fan. Her biggest passion was spending time with her family, especially her two grandchildren. She loved listening to their stories, coloring and playing board games together.
She is survived by her son, James Ryan Hadfield and his wife Kristine of Norton; two grandchildren, Morgan and James Hadfield; her brother, David Malonson and his wife Carol of E. Wareham; two nephews, Kristopher and Steven Malonson; and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024 from 8:30-10am with a Funeral Service beginning at 10am in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Peckham West Cemetery, New Bedford. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, 6520 N. Andrews Ave., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309-2132.
