Frances M. King

Francis “Franny” M. (Porter) King, of New Bedford, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Tremont Nursing Home in Wareham. She was the wife of Raymond F. King, with whom she shared 47 years of marriage.

Born in Acushnet, a daughter of the late William F. and Irene D. (Carpentier) Porter, she was a life-long resident of the area.

Mrs. King worked at Channel 6 News for several years. She was also a Receptionist at the former Park Wood Hospital for 17 years and St. Luke’s Hospital for 15 years. In her earlier years, Franny had competed in the Miss New Bedford pageant and came in second place.

In addition to her husband survivors include: a son, Derek King of New Bedford; two grandchildren, Aden and Noah King of Pennsylvania; a sister, Patricia Rebello and her husband David; several nieces and nephews.

She was also the mother of the late Randell F. King.

Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral service Friday, May 23, 2014 at 11 AM in the ROCK Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visiting hours, Friday 9-11 AM prior to the service.
