Dorothy DeSouza

Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Torres) Pires she was a lifelong area resident and a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church.

Mrs. DeSouza was a member of the Holy Ghost Club of Fairhaven and Mattapoisett and the ILGWU. She worked for New Bedford Manufacturing for many years. She enjoyed helping others she loved her family.

She is survived by two daughters, Janice Ellis and her husband David of Midlothian, VA and Rose Medeiros and her husband Brian of Church Hill, MD; two grandchildren, Scott Medeiros and his wife Kelly and Kevin W. Bean; three great grandchildren, Brady, Campbell, and Payton; and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Joseph Pires, Jr. and Raymond Pires.

Her funeral will be Thursday, August 10, 2017 at 9 am in Our Lady of Immaculate Conception, 136 Earle St., New Bedford followed by interment in St. John’s Cemetery.
