Dorothy C. Brault (Dot), age 86, of New Bedford, MA, died at home surrounded by her loving family on June 15, 2014, after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born on February 9, 1928, in the city of Worcester, MA to Alexander and Elsie Christopher. She was a long time resident of New Bedford, MA but had previously lived in Rutland, MA and Worcester, MA. While being widowed twice she courageously raised four children, mostly on her own, and was an amazing mother and wonderful grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed doing anything and everything her children and grandchildren were involved in, and spent much time attending and cheering at numerous horse shows, baseball, softball and basketball games. She was a most enthusiastic and supportive fan. In addition, she was a true animal lover and throughout her life either had a dog or cat for company.
As a young woman she attended Worcester School of Business Science and held several jobs. After moving to New Bedford and being widowed for the second time she worked for Hawthorn Medical Associates for 34 years until her retirement at age 73.
She is survived by her four children, Ann M. Polk and spouse Thomas Polk of New Bedford, Donna J. Strong of Fall River, William B. Letendre and spouse Linda of Fall River and Paula L. Mueller and her spouse Stephen Mueller of Wareham. In addition she is survived by her 7 grandchildren, Scott Strong and Keith Strong of Fall River, Rebecca Strong of Franklin, MA, Chad Letendre and Allison Letendre of Fall River, MA, Stephen Mueller of West Roxbury, MA and Jessica Mueller of Cambridge, MA, along with 8 great-grandchildren and her rescued cat “Jack”.
She is predeceased by her husband’s Bernard Letendre (June 19, 1955) and Vincent Paul Brault (August 12, 1966) and a sister, Margaret LeClerc.
Her funeral will be held on Friday, June 20, 2014 at 8:30AM from the ROCK FUNERAL HOME 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at 9:30AM in St. Mary’s Church, 343 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 4 to 8PM. Memorial contributions in her honor may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
