Claire Kathleen Medeiros

Claire K. (St. Onge) Medeiros, age 91, died peacefully on November 14, 2024 at St. Luke’s Hospital with her family by her side. She was born on December 15, 1932 to Adelard and Adelina (Sylvia) St. Onge. She was a 1950 graduate of New Bedford High School. She worked at Cornell Dubilier before marrying and settling on Sconticut Neck in Fairhaven. She was a homemaker for many years until her husband’s death. She then worked at Fairhaven Town Hall in the Tax Collector’s Office where she retired as the principal clerk in 1998.

Claire was a very loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She enjoyed being around people. Music and dancing brought her much joy. As a young woman, she danced at the Lincoln Park Ballroom. Later in life, she danced at parties and “senior clubs” (Mt. Carmel Club, Fairhaven Senior Center). During her short stay at Vantage (Formerly the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home) she was dubbed “the dancing queen”.

She enjoyed playing board games and cards, Rummy with “deuces wild”, being her favorite. She traveled regionally with family and on bus trips with the senior centers. She loved her dogs Max and Nikki, as well as several cats. Spending time at her home feeding and watching the birds was more than enough to keep her content in later years. She was a devout Catholic and a communicant of St. Joseph's Church, Fairhaven, MA.

Above all, Claire loved her family. She is survived by daughters Luanne (Randy) Brillon, Lorraine (Gino) Jackson, Nancy (Matthew) Kirichok, three grandsons Thomas (Geana) Brillon, Matthew (Hayley Morais) Brillon, Jason Kirichok, two nephews and one niece. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Jarvis Medeiros, her son James Medeiros, her brother John St. Onge and nephew John M. St. Onge.
