Albert J. Houde, 86, of New Bedford, peacefully passed away on Monday, October 7, 2024 at Sacred Heart Nursing Home. He was the beloved husband of the late Beatrice (Vezina) Houde, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage.
Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Edwardo and Alida (Barbeau) Houde.
Albert was a graduate of Bristol Community College. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1958, and joined the Coast Guard in 1959, and retired in 1982. He served in Germany, and was the first Coast Guard District Officer in charge of Search and Rescue Team in Scituate. Spending time with his family was very important, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He touched many hearts and will be deeply missed by many.
He is survived by his loving children, Douglas Houde and his wife Michelle of Polk City, FL, Gerald Houde and his wife Joanne of New Bedford, and Daniel Houde and his husband Don of Delray, FL; his grandchildren, Stephanie Singer and her husband Dan of Rochester, Jennifer Farias and her husband Chris Farias of Fall River, Joshua Houde of Fall River, Brittany Correia and her husband Collin Correia of New Bedford, and Jared Houde and fiancé Jessica Andrade of New Bedford; his great-grandchildren, Madison Singer, Mackenzie Singer, Mason Davis, Audrey Farias, Eleanor Farias, Abigail Farias, Savannah Correia, Davis Correia, Tatum Correia, and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Marie Houde, and brother of the late Armand Houde, Doris Black, Robert Houde, Henri Houde, and Lillian Cassidy.
His funeral service will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024 at 9:00AM from ROCK FUNERAL HOME, followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in St. Gabriel The Archangel Parish, 343 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery. His visitation will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2024 from 5:00 – 8:00PM in the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02745.
