Royce Dale Carter, age 77, of Lanesville, Indiana passed away Monday, August 29, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cordell Hull Carter and Maude Ellen (Davis) Carter and sister, Dorothy Lea Carter.
Royce grew up on the family farm in Sparta, Tennessee and moved to Louisville, Kentucky in the mid 1960's. He served in the Tennessee Army National Guard and the Indiana Army Reserve.
He retired from Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation in Louisville, Kentucky. During his 38 year career with Brown & Williamson, Royce managed several corporate functions, including general manager of the Brown & Williamson Federal Credit Union for almost 20 years. He served on the Board of Directors for the Kentucky Credit Union League for 15 years, including a term as Board Chairman.
Royce always had a passion for fishing and flying. He was a pilot and flew various airplanes for over 25 years. After retirement in 2005, Royce and Mary lived part time at their home in Sparta, Tennessee where they spent much time with family and friends. Sparta, Tennessee was always his home. He was a member of Eastern Heights Baptist Church, Jeffersonville, Indiana and attended Bear Cove Baptist Church, when in Sparta.
Royce is survived by his wife of 36 years, Mary (Karp) Carter, their son, Jonathan Royce Carter (Katie) and grandchildren, Gideon, Abram, Levi and Vera Carter of Greenville, Indiana along with many family members. Royce adored his grandchildren and spending time with them.
Visitation for Royce will be held Thursday, September 1, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana 47150 and Friday, September 2, 2022 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Harrison Hills Baptist Church, 3822 Crandall Lanesville Road NE, Lanesville, Indiana 47136.
A celebration of Royce's life will be conducted on Friday, September 2, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Harrison Hills Baptist Church, 3822 Crandall Lanesville Road NE, Lanesville, Indiana 47136.
Burial will be 1:00 PM on Friday at Wolfe Cemetery, Georgetown, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorial contributions be made to Royce's favorite charities: Norton Children's Hospital, Louisville, Kentucky, WHAS Crusade for Children, Louisville, Kentucky or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee.
