Gregory Allen Stumler, 63, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2024, in Charlotte, NC, after a courageous nine-month battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky, on March 29, 1961, to Kenneth "Kenny" Stumler and Judy (Batliner, Stumler) Jacobi.
Gregory "Greg" grew up in Starlight, IN, around the family excavating business and worked on the Stumler family farms throughout his childhood. Greg had a large family and enjoyed playing with his many brothers, sisters, and cousins on the Stumler farm. Greg graduated from Floyd Central High School in 1979, participating in theater and choir.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Purdue University, where he was the Social Chairman of the Tau Kappa Epsilon "TKE" (AZ1110) fraternity, maintaining lifelong friendships. After college, Greg moved to Edwards, CO, and jump-started his life-long sales career selling shoes in Vail. Greg's uncle Murray introduced him to the banking world shortly after, where he first joined the financial services industry with Deluxe Corporation for 19 years. His career with Deluxe took Greg to Tulsa, OK, where he met Beverly, his wife of 35 years, and started a family. His job took the family around the country from Wichita, KS, and Phoenix, AZ to Pittsburgh, PA, where they built memories and established enduring friendships. After the "dot com" boom, Greg transitioned into banking software sales and spent the rest of his career in Charlotte, NC.
Many who knew Greg knew he had an eye for interior design, landscaping, boating, enjoying a glass of red wine with company, and vacationing with his family at the beach. He loved to frequent the farmer's market and make floral arrangements for his loved ones. Above all else, he cherished spending time with his family and friends at his home. Greg was never shy but always honest. Greg loved meeting new people, and making new friends was easy for him. Greg had an infectious laugh and an unfiltered sense of humor. He was a great dancer and dressed the part for every holiday party. Greg was a tough "big" guy, but inside, he was extremely caring and always willing to help anyone in need, especially his children.
Greg is survived by his four children, Ashleigh Stumler, Karah (Andrew) Tanneberger, Kristin (Khristian) Gutierrez, and Ian Stumler; His grandson, Reeves Tanneberger; His former wife, Beverly Stumler; His siblings, Cynthia (Delbert) Lynch, Robyn (Tim Freiburger) Stumler, Bryan (Tamie Welch) Stumler, Renee Stumler, Brian (Melody) Jacobi, and Martin (Cheyenne) Jacobi; His mother, Judy Jacobi and stepfather John Jacobi; His dog, Charlie Stumler. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenny Stumler.
A visitation for Greg will be held Friday, August 2, 2024, from 12:00 - 8:00 pm and Saturday, August 3, 2024, from 9:00 - 10:00 am at Kraft Funeral Service (708 Spring Street, New Albany, IN 47150). The Funeral Service in celebration of his life will be held Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 11:00 am at St. John the Baptist (8310 St John Rd, Starlight, IN 47119).
