George Joseph Popp, 91, died Tuesday, December 1, 2020. He was born September 1, 1929 in Bennettsville, Indiana to his late parents, George M. and Esther Bauer Popp. George was retired from Armour Star meat packing and was a member of St. Joe Hill Catholic Church. He was a member of the St. Joe Board for Providence and received the St. John Bosco CYO award. George coached little league and girls softball for many years. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus Cardinal Ritter Council 1221 and the Rebels Square Dance Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Mary Jean Warman Popp, and daughter, Denise Popp. Survivors include his children, Theresa Lenfert (Dan), Rick Popp, and Tony Popp (Missy); six grandchildren, Renee, Brian, Joe, Adam, Erich, and Cory; eleven great grandchildren; siblings, Jim Popp, Kenny Popp, Maurice Popp, Joanie Renn, Bill Popp, Esther Wheatley, Barbara Beavin, and Merlin Popp; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 2 pm – 7 pm Wednesday at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany. His Funeral Mass will be 11:30 am Thursday St. John Paul II Catholic Church (St. Joe Hill Campus) with burial following in the church cemetery.
