Betty Jean Appelhaus, age 86, of New Albany, Indiana passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2024. Betty was born in Louisville, Kentucky on September 11th, 1938 to the late Edward Leon Pierson and Beulah Mae (Pryor) Pierson. Betty was an avid, self-taught quilter and loved sharing them with family and friends. She enjoyed gardening with her late husband, Calvin. Betty loved spending her time volunteering as a Willing Worker at Edwardsville United Methodist Church. With her outgoing personality, she never met a stranger and was always sharing hugs with those she loved. Her family was her pride and joy, she loved spending time making memories with them.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 34 years, Calvin Appelhaus; her son, Steve W. Dodd; and her brother, William "Bill" Pierson.
Betty is survived by her son, Craig (Marsha) Dodd; her step-daughter, Dana (John) Breeding; her loving grandchildren, Allyson (Adam) Kiesler, Chad Small, Christopher (Errin) Breeding, and Lewis (Alexis) Dodd; her great-grandchildren, Avarey and Wyatt Kiesler, Gracie Bostock, Wyatt Small, and Calvin and Blake Breeding; her brother, Edward (Sheila) Pierson and multiple nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana on Thursday, November 21st, 2024 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. A funeral service will be at the funeral home at 6:00 pm on Thursday, November 21st, 2024 with cremation to follow. A private burial of Betty's ashes will be at a later date at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
