Peacefully at the Concordia Hospital on December 20, 2016, William (Bill) Hayes of Winnipeg passed away.
Bill was born January 9, 1927 in Keystone, Alberta. Bill’s mother Ruth was from Slick, Oklahoma and his father Arthur was from Texas.
He is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth (Betty), his sons Greg and Terry, and cherished granddaughter Andrea and sister-in-law Tiny. Del Wagner, was Bill’s lifelong friend, as were Don and Helen Kropla, his neighbours for over 60 years. Bill was predeceased by his parents, brother Ken in 1997, and by his sister Bernice in the 80’s.
Bill loved Betty with all is heart, his other loves were jazz and cranes. Bill played jazz with Ernie King and the Harlem Kings in the 40’s, and also had the honor to play with Louis Armstrong during a Winnipeg concert. Bill was honored by the Winnipeg Jazz Society in 1977. When Bill played the trumpet it left you wanting more. His love of cranes spanned over 60 years, with a word of appreciation for his last employer, R. Litz and Sons, who treated him with old school class.
Private family service and burial will be held at Green Acres Funeral Home and Cemetery.
