With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Stanley Leonard Pilek on December 10th after suffering a stroke during a battle with Alzheimer’s at the age of 89.
Stan will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 63 years, Marion, his daughter Christine (Peter), son Russell (Cheryl), Grandsons Connor (Melissa), Mitchell (Alyssa), Keenan, Owen, and Great Grandsons Griffin and Nixon. Stan is also survived by his brother Edward, and sisters Veronica (Bryce), Leona (Dave), and Jeanette, and brothers-in-law Ernie Laing and Jerome El.
He was predeceased by a baby daughter, his parents Josephine and Stephen Pilek, and sisters Trudy Laing and Marie Pilek.
Stan spent his early years growing up in Tyndall, Manitoba, until the family moved into Winnipeg.
Stan, an electrician by trade, ran a successful electrical contracting partnership, Park Electric Ltd., for many years. Later in life he partly retired and launched R.S. Pilek Electric to work with his son for a few more years.
Many happy years were spent at the family cottage on Lee River. Dad always had a fishing line off the dock, a variety of watercraft, and weekends were filled with visiting cottage friends. Dad was also an avid golfer with memberships at Elmhurst, Transcona, or wherever his group of friends were golfing. He enjoyed curling at the Heather Curling club. As the years went by, they moved their gatherings to the MacDonald’s coffee shop on St. Annes Rd.
Dad and Mom were fortunate to be able to travel. They took many trips to Sarasota, Florida where time was spent with family and friends. Travels also took them to Hawaii, Mexico, and Texas.
Stan was very involved with his grandchildren. Regularly filling in for in-service days, sick days, and summer vacations. There were walks to the park, regular visits to the Forks, more soccer and hockey games than can be counted. If there was an activity the grandchildren had, Grandpa was there at them all.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Riverview Health Center for the compassionate and caring support Dad received daily under their care. For which we are truly grateful.
A celebration of Stan’s life will take place on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home, Highway 1 East at Navin Road, Winnipeg. Those wishing to join the service by livestream may do so by visiting his obituary at: www.greenacresfuneralhome.com
